Bahamas is the indie-folk sound of Afie Jurvanen.

His 2009 debut "Pink Strat" was nominated for a Juno award, for the Polaris Music Prize, and was critically acclaimed for its no-frills collection of honest, airy love songs.  Even the album title -  a homage to his fender - suggests the quiet a-man-and-his-guitar sound that Jurvanen employs so well.  His ability to communicate with only his guitar and voice is hardly surprising, though, as Jurvanen has played in bands since his high school days and was known for playing guitar for Feist's touring band before releasing "Pink Strat."

Once "Pink Strat" was released, Jurvanen stuck with the solo gig and is embarking on an international tour this spring.  He released his second album under the moniker Bahamas last month, and it's another sparse, evocative set of love songs, mostly written while he was on tour with Feist.  This album, "Barchords," is also named for Jurvanen's guitar, even though he expanded his recording process to include the occasional harmony, simple drumming and bits of bass.  Fans of Jurvanen's simplicity won't be overwhelmed, though.  Each song on "Barchords" centers around Jurvanen's sweetly melancholic strumming and singing.  Listen to Bahamas play live on this session of World Cafe with David Dye.
