Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion Record Wassaic Way In The Wilco Loft

August 21, 2013 - Consider the connections. Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion are a happy couple and happy music makers for many years.

Sarah Lee is the daughter of Arlo Guthrie which makes her grandfather Woody Guthrie. It was through Pat Sansone of Wilco and The Autumn Defense that they came to work on what became Wassaic Way with Pat and Jeff Tweedy in the Wilco loft. As she tells us today, being a big Wilco fan, she was nervous around Jeff until she started to think of his family connections. Tweedy worked with her aunt Norah Guthrie and Woody Guthrie’s lyrics on the very successful Mermaid Avenue project. The result is a very successful album that may be the duo’s best yet. They’ll play the songs live in our session and there are some web extra songs as well.
