Superhero Helen Leicht PHILADELPHIA, Pa. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…WXPN superheroes? Philadelphia music lovers are powering up and showing their support for WXPN (http://www.xpn.org), the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, during the “Be Our Hero” Fall Fund Drive campaign. The campaign urges listeners to become XPN superheroes by making a pledge to support the station and keep its 885 Ultimate Road Trip Songs Countdown fund drive free. The station has already raised $152,000 toward its goal of $640,000 through pre-drive fundraising.

“With great power comes great responsibility,” said WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay. “The power to keep WXPN alive and the 885 Countdown fund drive free comes from the dedicated support of our members. We ask all of our listeners to become XPN superheroes so we can focus on our mission of connecting artists with audiences.”

This year’s 885 Countdown will run from October 11-15 and play the top 885 songs that make listeners want to hit the road. If the station can reach its goal prior to October 11th, the Countdown will play without the Fall Fund Drive. Listeners who pledge five dollars a month or more will receive the I’m an XPN Superhero¬ t-shirt.

WXPN’s fund drives help support the station’s programming and other day-to-day operations. For more information about WXPN, please visit www.xpn.org.
