PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Nicole Atkins as its February Artist To Watch. Host David Dye will present the first of the month’s on-air segments on Friday, February 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.

Gifted with the pristine, lilting croon of golden-era Nashville belles such as Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, 27-year-old Nicole Atkins melds her timeless voice with richly-crafted and pop-savvy Americana, fashioning for herself a distinct musical personality with an appeal that spans across genre lines. Cinematic orchestration and rock and roll instincts combine in Atkin’s music to create classic-meets-cutting-edge pop perfection. Listed as one of Rolling Stone’s Top 10 Artists To Watch before she had even released a full album, Atkin’s debut, Neptune City, offers lush, sweeping ballads of melancholia that assuredly deliver on such early promise.

“Based on her debut album and her powerful live shows, Nicole has an immensely promising career,” said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager of programming for WXPN. “She's got a sultry voice, strong songwriting skills and a noir-pop sound that is simply breathtaking.”

WXPN music director Dan Reed said, “So far the reaction of XPN listeners to Nicole has been fantastic and we couldn't miss this opportunity to feature a truly exciting new artist.”
