XPoNential Radio

Makes Available Online, Nationally and Internationally, Its Vast Music Library, including World Cafe®, WXPN, and Y Rock on XPN

Philadelphia, PA – On August 1, WXPN 88.5 FM, the nationally recognized leader in Triple-A Radio and the premier source for musical discovery of new and significant artists in rock, blues, root, and folk, makes its vast library of music even more accessible when it launches XPoNential Music On Demand, a separately branded and media-rich music Web site. Music fans worldwide can now select from a menu of podcasts, music streams, recorded live concerts, and archived produced shows, including shows from World Cafe®, WXPN’s nationally-syndicated show hosted by David Dye, and listen to them on demand. XPoNential Music On Demand will be readily accessed at www.xponentialmusic.org and www.xpn.org.

The launch of XPoNential Music On Demand coincides with the announcement of a partnership between WXPN and Y100Rocks.com that will see programming and overall operations of Y100Rocks.com coming under the management and guidance of WXPN, and will put alternative rock music back on the airwaves. Y100Rocks.com, the 24/7 online radio station that launched 17 months ago, following the February 25, 2005 departure of WPLY 100.3 FM – Y100 – from the radio dial, will be re-branded as Y Rock On XPN. The music stream will reside on the new XPoNential Music On Demand site.

“Our mission is to serve as the premier source for musical discovery,” said WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay. “Now we can do that to a greater audience,” he said. “XPoNential Music On Demand will give music fans worldwide the ability to listen to great musical content that can be found on WXPN, World Cafe®, and now Y-Rock On XPN, and listen to it on their time, when they want it, putting them in control of their personal journeys into musical discovery,” he said. “It will be high quality, well curated and noncommercial – like XPN,” he said.

XPoNential Music On Demand
“This new online space is designed for people who love contemporary and alternative rock music and are passionate about discovering new music,” said WXPN Program Director Bruce Warren. “It is the one place where music fans from around the globe can discover new artists such as Sufjan Stevens, KT Tunstall, Death Cab for Cutie, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and The Shins, while also enjoying the artists, songs, and albums that transcend the music – artists such as Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Jeff Buckley, and The Clash,” Warren said. “And, with its on demand online format, it is targeted to the people in the world who are using online space and iPods and spending less time listening to the radio and more time with their content as they want it.”

In addition to the August 1 launch of XPoNential Music On Demand and Y Rock On XPN, WXPN will introduce the YRock On XPN music show Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., and Fridays from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., beginning August 30 on air. The show will be hosted by Jim McGuinn, Y100Rocks.com program director.
