PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 2, 2016 – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and non-commercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, named Car Seat Headrest as its May Artist To Watch. WXPN Music Director and Host Dan Reed presented the first of the month’s on-air segments today, May 2, in the 4 p.m. hour.

Car Seat Headrest is the brainchild of Will Toledo, who, since 2010, has 11 releases to his band’s name, many of which he’s made available for a “name your price” on Bandcamp ( Originally from Leesburg, Virginia, and currently based out of Seattle, the DIY’er is releasing his first album of new songs on a “proper” label, Matador Records. Car Seat Headrest released Teens of Style, a collection of re-recorded older material going back to 2011, as their introduction by the label just last year, and their new album, Teens of Denial, is out on May 20th. Toledo’s music is an indie rock brew that brings to mind Guided By Voices by way of early Who, Pavement, and informed by Toledo’s love of REM, with lots of guitars, layered harmonies, lyrics you want to pay attention to, and loads and loads of well-crafted lo-fi nuance and charm. Car Seat Headrest was recently featured by David Dye as a World Cafe Next artist ( They are playing XPN’s Non-Comm on Friday, May 20th and XPN Welcomes them to Underground Arts on May 22nd.

Dan Reed, the self-appointed President of the Car Seat Headrest fan club and Music Director and Operations Manager for XPN, says “This is the best album of the year, so far. Toledo is one of rock’s great new lyricists; anthemic, diverse, funny, and sad, sometimes all at once."
