Like previous Sense of Place editions focusing on Portland, New Orleans and Dublin (among others), Sense of Place: Nashville will feature artist interviews conducted by World Cafe host David Dye, and exclusive performances and videos with those engrained in the city and its music culture, in addition to other special features.

“Nashville’s rock and indie scene is not a secret anymore,” said Dye. “Our Sense of Place series allows us to get inside the city’s musical psyche with the artists themselves. Each day’s show is packed with music and history, as well, and the video tours with Elizabeth Cook, Jerry Douglas and newcomer Caitlin Rose covering East Nashville and beyond are not to be missed.”

Brand new interviews and performances from Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, Rodney Crowell and Emmylou Harris, Leagues, Caitlin Rose and Moon Taxi are part of Sense of Place: Nashville. Rose, along with musicians Jerry Douglas, Elizabeth Cook, the Kopecky Family Band, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings provide listeners with a tour of the artists’ favorite Nashville spots. Up-and-coming Nashville artist Luella and the Sun will be featured as World Cafe: Next artist and the Kopecky Family Band will be featured in the World Cafe: Words and Music podcast for the week.

Each Sense of Place: Nashville episode also features stops at musically significant Nashville locales, including United Record Pressing, RCA Studio B, Jack White’s Third Man Records and the Ryman Auditorium. Adding more musical dimensions to the series is a special mix of Nashville songs curated by Dye and some enlightening “top 5” lists: A top 5 list of Nashville artists who are on the cusp of breaking through to a wider audience comes from Grimey’s Records’ owner Doyle Davis; a top 5 list of classic country songs is provided by Ernest Tubb Record Shop owner Stephen Bowen; and a top 5 list of best live performances recorded at Jack White’s Third Man Records comes from the label/music complex’s co-founder Ben Swank.
