PHILADELPHIA, PA – WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A music and noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, names Scott Matthews as its August Artist To Watch. Host Jim McGuinn will present the first of the month’s on-air segments on Wednesday, August 1, in the 4 p.m. hour.
Acclaimed as one of the best vocal discoveries of recent times, Scott Matthews couples his heavenly voice with harmoniously soothing acoustics. The result is a glorious collection of musical stories where one is consciously captivated by the sound. Matthew’s debut album, Passing Stranger is “a complete, whole, enveloping album, full of light and shade, romance and loss, uppers and downers, Indian vibes and American blues, modern English folk and proper full-on rock.” Each song demonstrates Matthews’ amazing range of ability and affirms he is a complete musician with an extremely bright future.
"We're excited to be introducing singer-songwriter Scott Matthews to our audience,” said Bruce Warren, assistant general manager of programming for WXPN. “He's an incredibly talented songwriter whose debut album comes out in early September. Already critically acclaimed in the UK, Matthews evokes the spirit of Robert Plant, Jeff Buckley and Chris Whitley. His debut, Passing Stranger is a beautiful collection of acoustic and electric based songs with tinges of blues and folk in the mix. Matthews is a wonderful storyteller and a crafty, thought provoking songwriter."
Says WXPN music director Dan Reed, “He’s simply one of the most striking singers we’ve heard in a long time and his songwriting skills are readily apparent on this new album.”
